What kind of screw driver do you use to take a part a laptop?

I have windows 98 compaq presario. The screen is loose and I was going to take the screen off to look at the hinges or change them. I got pretty far until I got to a screw that I didn't have a bit for. It wasn't a hex, it was more than that, like maybe a 9 pointed star kind of deal. And its tapered inward kinda like a cone so I have no idea what would be able to grab that. I just wanted to know where I could find a bit for this, or if anyone knows what the bit is called so I can look for it. And please don't tell me not to bother with my screen, or to leave it to a pro...I want to do it. Just answer my question. Thanks!
