Is this a good start for a book?

I feel that this book has a lot of potential!! One thing however is that there is nothing there that really draws in the reader. A good book often starts off with a bang. This doesn't always mean something bad or amazing just happened, but rather that there is something significant about the first paragraph that draws the reader in. Once that is down the writer is ready to go as long as they have a good plot that may or may not include suspense. The important thing is to start the books with something interesting and not your everyday ho hum. Remember don't be afraid to take a risk in your writing, GO FOR IT!!! :)
