Laptop trouble! Please help!?

I'm not sure how to explain what's wrong but i'll try my best. I closed the lid of my laptop a bit too fast and the metal part (there are two, one on each side of the hinge) popped out. The laptop closes and opens normally, but its a bit loose, and the part (i have no idea what you call it) is completely attatched, just out of its place. I'm afraid it'll break off soon, but i don't know what to do. Is there a way to fix it without taking it to a computer store? I always break something in the laptop, and my dad will be pretty mad.
